Test Reference Guide
Dead Pixel Detection
Use solid color screens to identify stuck or dead pixels. Stuck pixels appear as bright dots on dark backgrounds; dead pixels appear as dark spots on light backgrounds.
Uniformity Testing
Gray screens reveal backlight bleeding, clouding, and uneven brightness distribution. Check all corners and edges for variations.
Gradient Banding
Smooth gradients should show no visible steps or bands. Banding indicates limited color depth or poor display processing.
Gamma Calibration
The inner square should blend seamlessly with the dithered outer pattern at your display's gamma setting. Most displays target gamma 2.2.
Response Time
Watch for ghosting or trailing behind moving objects. Slower response times cause visible blur or inverse ghosting (coronas).
OLED Specific
OLED displays offer perfect blacks but may exhibit ABL (brightness limiting), near-black banding, or uniformity issues at low brightness levels.
OLED & Monitor Display Testing
Professional display testing is essential for color-critical work in video production, photography, and broadcast. This diagnostic suite provides comprehensive tests to evaluate monitor performance across multiple parameters including color accuracy, uniformity, pixel integrity, and response time.
The OLED gray uniformity test is designed specifically for OLED panels to reveal dirty screen effect (DSE), uneven brightness patches, and panel uniformity issues that are most visible at low gray levels. Use the dark uniformity test in a completely dark room to check for OLED-specific artifacts like near-black banding, vertical banding, and gray uniformity problems common in OLED displays.
Additional OLED tests help identify characteristics unique to this technology: Auto Brightness Limiting (ABL) behavior when displaying large bright areas, near-black level performance with 20 distinct steps from 0-5% brightness, and the pixel refresh pattern for panel break-in.
For best results, run tests in a darkened room after allowing the display to warm up for at least 30 minutes. Use fullscreen mode for accurate evaluation, and compare results at different viewing angles to understand your display's consistency.
